It’s hard to believe, but we’ve been in school for four weeks! In room 226 we have been working on getting to know ourselves as readers, choosing a good (and challenging) book, as well as strategies for dealing with unknown words. We are also in the process of assessing students' abilities so that instruction can be tailored to their needs. Because of this assessment, there haven’t been many grades entered at this time even though we’ve been working hard!
While you aren’t part of the teaching staff here at East Middle School, you are just as important to your child’s education as we are. Please be sure to ask your child about his or her reading goals and our book challenge. All students should be reading for at least 20 minutes outside of the classroom each day. Why? Because in order to become better readers we need to be reading! This reading does not have to take place all at once! For example, 10 minutes on the way to soccer practice and 10 minutes before bed would be just fine. Thank you for your support in helping our students become better readers!
Those of you who were able to come to open house may know that I was using a blog, jmoehlman.weebly.com, to update parents and students on what is happening in the classroom. Due to some issues with an RSS feed I will now be using readingraptors.weebly.com to continue those updates. Please feel free to follow the blog or follow me on Twitter @MrsMoehlman to be notified of new blog posts. There is a link to the blog on the Staff Page of the East Middle School Website. As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
I am very excited to have the opportunity to work and learn with you and your child. Go Reading Raptors!
